Cylindrical lenses
A cylindrical lens, including plano convex, plano concave, plano convex round, plano concave round types, is a lens that focuses light into a line instead of a point, as a spherical lens does. It converges or diverges the image in the direction perpendicular to this line and leaves the image unaltered in the direction parallel to its cylindrical axis (in the tangential plane).
